Yup. I homeschool but I'm totally normal! really

My friend wrote a great post about being a homeschooling family

I must confess that I actually did go through a period where I tried to fit the mold of the conventional (aka kinda strange) Homeschool Mom who wore denim jumpers and kept her hair long and straight.   That phase lasted about 4 years.    Thankfullly for all who had to endure me,  it ended and I moved into a more comfortable place of accepting myself and others.

On another subject:   My friend Lisa and I went to part 1 of our bag making class.   Here's a little snippet of my progress.

Lisa is using the exact same pattern and it's incredible how different our bags look  simply because of the fabric choice.   Hers is a fabulous print (browns and blacks and gold) that she got in Africa and the trim she has chosen is a stunning combo of beads and shells.   It's perfect!  Maybe I'll actually be able to get a picture of her bag, too.

We hope to finish our bags this Sunday.

Have any of you attempted any of the projects from Amy Butler's Style Stitches book?

  1. I love that wave pattern! The jury is still out on the rick-rack, but I can be persuaded.

  2. Thank you for the link! :)

Ok, seriously, your project are incredible! I was just looking through your ETSY shop, and everything is so beautiful! Do you have to rip things out a lot, or have you gotten more experience and you do most things right the first time? I have atempted to sew several times and I get so frustrated and I give up!!Plus, your fabric is adorable!

  3. Anne - I'm not a ric-rac fan but this giant ric-rac is winning me over.

MomRun - I had to rip something out as recently as YESTERDAY! I had attached a sleeve inside-out. yep. Makes me crazy, too.

  5. What's funny is that one year, I made nightgowns for all the ladies in the family, and by the last one, I just DID NOT CARE anymore. So I left a sleeve in backwards. On the nightgown that I gave my husband's grandma! Who was in her 70's. Late 70's.

She was the sweetest woman alive. She actually hired a seamstress at her church to fix it and put snaps in the front so that she could wear it.

I don't sew gifts anymore. My hubby won't allow it. ;)

  6. I'm always impressed with anything people sew themselves - yep even the ones with the sleeves in wrong...

Determined to learn to sew tote bags 'cause they look so useful and fun.

  7. Angie - No. This one won't be on my etsy. But perhaps I'll make one later.
MomRun- LOL. You did great! :)

Mrs. Wookie - There are some good tote patterns out there. There are lots of variations.

  8. Robin, that big econo-size rickrack is just dah bomb!!! So cute!!! And the choice of fabrics, and the way the whole thing looks put together: I just don't know how you do it, but I LOVE what you do!

  9. I loved your comments on the homeschool thing. I feel like a real misfit when it comes to our homeschool group. It seems like there is a certian type of homeschool stereotype. I am not going to worry about trying to be something I'm not.

    Your bags are so cool!
