The Royal Wedding amped up my desire to have a hat or two.

My budget isn't really allowing for the expense of buying a fancy schmancy hat - but it DOES have room for buying the meagre supplies necessary to make my own!

I've stumbled across this wonderful tutorial and gotten inspired to host a sew-along!

Here's the plan:   I'm going to give you two weeks to gather your supplies  (a 22" X 14ish inch piece of felt), any decoration you may choose to put on your cap (feathers, buttons, netting, lace, etc...) 2 bobby pins, about 22 inches of bias tape (double fold will probably be best), a piece of paper and ruler for making your pattern.

We'll start the sew along on Friday May 20th  (edited to change the date because I looked at the calendar wrong)  and hopefully you will begin to post links to your finished projects  by Monday the 23rd.    Hopefully I'll know how to make that happen (technology is NOT my strong suit) by then.

Here's the tutorial so you can see what we'll be making.   It's super easy and cute!
Who's with me?

  1. Yer on yer own, kid, in terms of roping me in. I tried to interest my dear daughter, but she was having none of it.

    No sewing machine, anyway.

However, I look forward to following your progress, and the progress of anyone else who will be joining you.

  4. Adorable! I wish I looked good in hats. Also, I wish she'd showed the hat on a human once it was finished.

  5. Nota - she was actually wearing one of the little hats (the yellow one). Also, the gal introducing the video showed a segment where she was wearing one, too - it was plaid.

  6. How fun! I'm not into sewing, yet, but I love hats and can't wait to see your finished product. Hugs!

  7. I really want a hat, too!!! Could this inspire me to go out and buy a sewing machine? I'm thinking about it. And I can't wait to see your creations.
